I’ve run into the same headache before. What I found helpful is selectively syncing only the folders I actively use and keeping the rest purely online. Also, sometimes I need to move large files to my laptop to work offline, and learning google drive webdav really simplified things. It’s nice because I can keep my main storage uncluttered while still having access to the files I need locally.
